P–12 Teaching
Every student that walks into the music classroom is unique and important. I strive to create an environment where all students are respected, safe, and able to access and enjoy music. In order to achieve this, I work to incorporate a variety of learning strategies that reach every learner.
In the music classroom, we sing, play, dance, analyze, and create music. I believe that technology is an important tool for our learners today. Through Project-Based Learning and the Orff Schulwerk approach, students experience and grow in their love of music.

Embracing the Orff Schulwerk
The Orff Schulwerk is an approach to learning which encourages children to embrace music. Through this approach, students are encouraged to explore, play, and grow in their love of music. Orff Schulwerk encourages students to sing, play and dance in a way that is accessible and comfortable.
Instrumental performance plays a key role in my musical classroom. Using classroom instruments, students learn to perform melodies and accompaniments to both folk and popular music. Students work collaboratively to use their musical knowledge to perform and create compositions.
The Orff Schulwerk approach can be summarized in the statement from Carl Off:
"Every phase of Schulwerk will always provide stimulation for new independent growth, therefore it is never conclusive and settled, but always developing, always growing, always flowing." Through a holistic approach to learning, I strive to bring the best experiences to students in the music classroom.
More information on the Orff Schulwerk approach be found in the American Orff Schulwerk Association website.
