In February 2018, I authored and won a $2,500 grant sponsored by S²TEM Centers SC, South Carolina Coalition for Math & Science (SCCMS), and Clemson University. In this project, students will utilize 21st Century Skills to integrate all learning disciplines embodied in STEAM Education. Servicing nearly 300 students, Full STEAM Ahead allows students to gain real world experiences working as music producers and sound engineers. Fourth and fifth grade general music students will learn the music fundamentals to analyze, remix, and produce their own music using Serato DJ Software and Sound Controllers. Providing the students practical, real world experience, the students will be mentored by professional musicians, music producers, sound engineers, and DJs from the organization the AM Project. You can learn more about the AM Project at their website.
Arizona Community Foundation
In March 2010, while teaching at Collier Elementary in Avondale, Arizona, I co-authored and won the Wallace A. Denehy Grant. This grant was funded by the Arizona Community Foundation. You can learn more about the Arizona Community Foundation at their website.
With $10,000 provided from the organization, I purchase Mac Laptops, electronic instruments, microphones, and other technology accessories to start the Collier Elementary Music Technology. Students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade general music students used GarageBand and other music software to create original compositions. Sixth through Eighth Grade Chorus members used the lab to record their performances and reflect on their work.
SAISD Foundation
In the 2016-2017 school year, while teaching at the Advanced Learning Academy in San Antonio, Texas, I received two grants from the San Antonio Independent School District Foundation. The SAISD Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting learning for students, particularly in the areas of science, technology, and fine arts. In October 2016, I received a New Teacher Grant to provide repairs to the school's sound system. In December 2016, I received grant funds to purchase a class set of ukuleles. Upper elementary and middle school students used the ukuleles in class and during after school performing ensembles.
